The Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is pleased to announce an annual writing retreat for Holocaust scholars.
This competitive program is part of the Broadening Academia Initiative, a larger initiative designed to support the production of scholarship on the Holocaust and to provide access to the USHMM’s world class collections to scholars who are untenured, contingent, or working outside of academia. More specifically, this writing retreat is designed to provide time and space to work on original research projects and to build and sustain a community of Holocaust scholars that transcends institutional and disciplinary boundaries.
Our writing retreat will take place in July 2025 at Airlie Hotel & Conference Center, nestled in the Virginia countryside, just 45 minutes from Washington D.C. All participants must be able to commit to attending the entire retreat and will be provided with five (5) nights’ lodging, all meals, and transportation costs reimbursable up to $1,000. Participants are responsible for securing their transportation to and from Airlie Hotel & Conference Center. This program is made possible by the generous support of The Marcus Foundation.
Qualifications
Applicants must have earned a PhD. Applicants must be North American-based Holocaust scholars who are untenured, contingent, or working outside of academia. Applicants must be in the writing phase of an original research project related to the field of Holocaust studies.
